Settings - Agent
The Agent tab sets the models that new conversations start with. Configure it once and you rarely need to touch it again — you can always switch models inside a conversation.
Open this dialog
Open Settings from the app menu — Dashboardx Designer → Settings on macOS, Settings on Windows, or press ⌘, (Ctrl+, on Windows) — and select Agent under AI & Agent.
Global Default Model
The model used when nothing more specific applies. If you point a specific agent at a model whose provider you have not configured yet, conversations fall back to this one instead of failing.
Pick any model from a provider you have an API key for. See Settings → Providers.
Global Small Model
A lighter, faster model reserved for background work: naming conversations and compressing long history. These happen constantly and do not need a heavyweight model, so routing them here keeps your main model focused on the actual dashboard work.
Agent Default Models
Dashboardx Designer ships a team of six specialized agents — the Dashboard Master, the Data Analyst, the Visualization Professor, the Dashboard Stylist, the Data Reviewer and the Visualization Reviewer. Each one has a built-in model that suits its job.
You can override any of them. Pick a model for an agent and new conversations with that agent start on your choice. The row shows a Built-in badge while it is still on the shipped default.
Restore built-in default
Once you have overridden an agent, a Restore built-in default control appears in its row. One click puts that agent back on the model it shipped with.
How a model is chosen for a new conversation
In order:
- The agent's override, if set and its provider is configured.
- The Global Default Model, if its provider is configured.
- The agent's built-in default.
Anything you change here applies to new conversations. Existing conversations keep the model you are already using in them — switch it from the model selector in the conversation if you want.
Per-conversation override
Every conversation has its own model selector. Changing it affects that conversation only and never writes back to these defaults. See Agent Dock.
